Whether a minor signs for themselves or needs a parent/guardian depends on the state's self-consent age — and Psy180 sets this for you automatically.
These are the self-consent ages Psy180 applies, by state:
- 12–17: CA, IL
- 13–17: WA, FL
- 14–17: PA, OH, MI, OR, WI, VA
- 16–17: MD, NJ, MN
- Every state not listed: there is no minor self-consent — every client under 18 gets a guardian link.
So:
- At or above the range for their state → the minor gets the link and signs for themselves, and their record stays private from the guardian (no guardian is collected).
- Below it → a parent or legal guardian gets the link and signs.
You don't have to work any of this out yourself: enter the client's date of birth and state in the Add New Client form, and Psy180 picks the path and shows it live.
⚠️ When asking for help, don't include a client's name, date of birth, exact age, or any other identifying detail. Describe the situation generally — for example, the client's state — or just let the Add New Client form work it out for you.
